You may not know this, so...

I also offer drawing demos and horse art history lectures within a certain distance of my studio in Hampton, Connecticut. The demo with lecture is $50/hour plus mileage (fees vary). Contact me if you would like me to do a presentation for your group: soundthebuglestudio (at) charter.net

I love speaking with student groups, art and 4-H clubs, etc. I bring a sketch pad and I take requests! I also discuss daVinci, Stubbs, and other famous equine artists and show examples of their work. I love art history, and I love sharing it with others.

Happy Birthday to me, part two

Sound the Bugle (aka, Rooster, Roo), 24" x 36", acrylic and horsehair on deep cradled gessoboard.

There is a strand of Roo's actual hair in this piece. It's in his forelock...look closely...maybe you can see it? (click to make the pic bigger)

This piece will be in my private collection. Contact me if you would like to commission a portrait painting of your best horse friend--complete with a single strand of their tail or mane hair--just ask.

Happy Birthday to me! featuring a work in progress...

Today's my b-day!

I have the whole day to paint and hang out with the kitties!

Above is a work-in-progress of the my studio namesake, Sound the Bugle. No reference photos were used for this portrait's composition-- just a peek at one photo to study the coloration on his face. I am relying on my memories of him and his wonderful and kind face.

This is an emotional portrait for me. Sound the Bugle, (barn name, Rooster) touched my heart very deeply. He was a groom's dream charge; never naughty, never in a bad mood. Always sweet and OH SO HAPPY! to see me. He had wonderfully perky ears and beautiful wide-open eyes. His face always told a tale of pure equine joy.

I wanted him to have a classic three-quarter profile portrait worthy of a Thoroughbred with a pedigree full of Champions. (Man o War, Whirlaway, Round Table).

Here's to you, Roo!

I still miss you, Old Friend.

Stay tuned for the final portrait.
